BW: How "scientific" is the threshold theory and how do people know that the Multi-Diet is safe to do?

AAA: Those who point out that the threshold theory as a whole has not reached a "scientific" level of proof are completely correct. I refuse to be associated with any attempt to ignore or obscure that point.

But two of its three main parts have reached a scientific level of proof. These are the propositions that:

Restricting calories is the only certain way to lose fat.

Ensuring that you get RDI amounts of all the other nutrients is good for your health.

What is new and unproven as yet is our contention that it is the failure to do the second thing that feeds back into preventing people from doing the first for long enough to make a difference.

The first two points, of course, are the basis of all the recommendations of The Multi-Diet technique, so I and my associates feel quite comfortable writing a popular book about how to do them properly and safely.
